LANCASHIRE EVENING POST MATCH REPORTS
WEEK 9 26/07/2010
Preston City pool League week 9 saw our only unbeaten side, The Ley Inn put on another fine performance as they travelled to Hendrys to play our only team without a win, Hendrys Allsorts. It didnt start well for the Allsorts as Adam Richardson, Johnny Dean and Brian Young took three quick frames only for Emma Hall to pull one back in true fighting spirit. Dave O Shaughnessy and Damion Milne settled the ship for the leaders but up stepped Martin Butcher to get another one back for the Allsorts, did they have a chance ? No! Another from Adam Richardson and two 8 ballers in a row, one from Dave O Shaughnessy and one from Kris Hampson who also partenered Dave in the doubles to finish the night 9~2. In second place in the table are Last orders who made the short trip to the struggling Black Horse. This was to be a close game with nobody taking full control. Last Orders took early advantage with a 3~2 lead in the first half, wins from Roger Brakewell and Keith and Emma Farrington. John Hodgeson and Eddie Bolton were the first half winners for the Horse. With another win John Hodgeson levelled the tie only for Barry Johnson to win and put the game back in favour of Last Orders. Simon Firth and once again Eddie Bolton put the horse into the lead only for captain Keith Farrington to level at 5~5. Up steps Eddie Bolton with Simon Firth to take the win and TEAM OF THE WEEK and after that Eddie Bolton takes PLAYER OF THE WEEK . Well played Black Horse. In third place in the table are our Southport friends Hendrys Regs who took on last seasons champions Hendrys Z. The Regs set off well with wins from A Green, B Rawsthorne and D Jackson with Zs responce from Mick Hughes and Aidy Alty. All change second half as the Zs took two from Richard Woan and Dave Cuerden. A Green levelled for his second only for Mick Hughes to win his second. J Rimmer made it all square and once again A Green for his third and partnering Ste Crane won the doubles to take the match for the Regs 6~5. In forth place are Hendrys 5 Cues they travelled to Riley D&G. The Cues needed a big win to try and catch The Ley Inn and came away with a 10~1 victory. Lee Clough had two brilliant 8 ballers, 3 out of 3 for Del Redmond, 2 out of 2 for Gaz Hibbott, Gary Clarke and Craig Day were all just too strong for D&G. Anthony Underdown was the only winner for D&G. Our next game is fifth, Team Hendry playing host to seventh, W-L-D Con Club. Stuart Turner, Andy Marshall and Gary Dewhurst took three frames in the first half with Hendrys response from Dave Phillips and Anne Roccia leaving the tie wide open. Another from Gary Dewhurst put the game in favour of the Club only for wins from Chris Kane and Alison Parkes levelling the match at 4~4. John Park and Andy Marshall took the next two sealing the match leaving the deadly duo of Alison Parkes and Anne Roccia to make the score abit more respectable finishing the night 5~6 in favour of the Con Club. A local derby next as The Swan welcomed The Old Oak. It was The Swan who took early advantage in the first half with wins from Andrew Dixon, Joe Wolstenholme and Jonny Smith, with Mark Langan and Terry Ashton keeping the visiters hopes alive. The second half was much different as The Oak took all 5 single games, wins from Chris Bullen,Andy Livesey,Darren Eccles and another from Mark and Terry. Stuart Greaves and Andrew Dixon took the doubles for The Swan finishing the night with a win for the Oak 7~4. Last but not least its Peters Bar who were entertaining Gregson Lane Club and once again it was the Bateson trio that did the damage for the Club. Andy, Chris and Ste Bateson with Arron Billington adding another taking the first half 4~1. Peters Bars only reply from Alex Smith and things didnt get any better in the second half as the Bateson trio did it again with other win from Lee Youd. Lenny Long won his game for Peters Bar but it was too late. It was a Bateson duo as well that took the doubles as Andy and Chris made it 3 out of 3 and 9~2 at the end of the night.
Week 8 19/7/2010
Preston City Pool League saw a big change in the top places. Starting with Last Orders, who where at the top they were at home to Hendrys Z who started well with a win from Richard Woan, Nick Whitelaw and Tom Lancaster.Last Orders responce from Keith Farrington and Roger Brakewell making the score 3~2 and all to play for.With wins Aidy Alty, Ste Doyle,another from Richard and with a win in the doubles for Tom Lancaster taking 3 out of 3. With Mark Bentham and again Keith the only winners the Hendrys Z were just too strong winning 7~4. Second in the table were Hendrys Regs who played The Old Oak. This was a close game with the Oak taking the first two only for an 8 baller for Gary Wainwright and a frame from D Rimmer. Once again the Oak took another straight two just for the Regs to take the next 3 leaving the game 5~4 to the Regs. Then steps in Andy Livesey for the Oak to take the last single and partner John Anderson in the doubles to seal the match. Three out of three for Andy and John, and a single for Mark Langan for the Oak and 2 out of 2 Gary and D Rimmer, and one for Steve Crane for the Regs. Third in the table were the Ley Inn, they entertained Peters Bar and thrashed them 11~0 putting the unbeaten side six points clear at the top of the table. Three out of three for Jonny Dean and Kris Hampson, and two wins each for Mark Holmes, Brian Young and Dave O Shaughnessy all showed no sympathy for the struggling Peters Bar making the Ley Inn TEAM OF THE WEEK. Our next tie is forth place Team Hendry taking on fifth place Hendrys 5 Cues, this is another which could go either way. After the first 5 the Cues were 3~2 ahead wth wins from Gaz Hibbott, Jason Hill and the impressive young James Cahill with Louise Kearns and Paul Patterson winning for Team Hendry. Same again in the second half as Gaz and Jason won again and a fine 8 baller from James who also partnered Jason in the doubles to make 3 out of 3 giving James Cahill PLAYER OF THE WEEK. Alison Parkes and Anne Roccia pulled two back but was not enough leaving the Cues 7~4 winners. Steady away W-LE-D Con Club is our next stop who welcomed Hendrys Allsorts who are still looking for their first win and after 5 frames they had taken a 3~2 lead. Wins from Ann Harrison, Dan Brightey and Martin Butcher for the Allsorts with wins from Andy Marshall and Stuart Turner keeping up the pressure for the Club. The second half was a different story as the Club took 5 of the remaining 6 frames to take the match 7~4. Dave Halliwell, Gary Dewhurst, John Park, another from Stuart Turner who also partnered Andy Marshall in the doubles to make his tally 3 out of 3. Ann Harrison won her second for the Allsorts just to show she has not given up. Keep going Allsorts your win will come. Abit of a derby next as The Swan made the short journey up to Gregson Lane Club and started well with James Delaney only to be pegged back by a Bateson trio. Ste, Chris and Andy all won for the club but Stu Greaves fought his corner to make the score 3~2 to the Club at half time. Arron Billington stepped up for the Club winning well then the Bateson trio set off again to put the match out of reach. Andy Bateson and Arron Billington played the doubles and won taking the match 8~3. Andrew Dixon was the only other winner for the Swan. Last but not least Rileys D&G played host to the only other side without a win, The Black Horse. The Horse started well taking a 3~2 lead at half time. Alex Shaw, Eddie Bolton and Rob Cuerden with Tracy Diffin and Anthony Underdown keeping the game alive for D&G. In the second half the the Horse sealed their first win taking 3 out of the 5 singles with wins from Alex, Rob and Simon Firth. Debbie Underdown and Anthony Underdown winning their singles and Anthony playing with Tracy Diffin in the doubles and winning taking his tally to three out of three. The game finished 6~5 to the Black Horse.
Week 7 - 12/07/2010
Week 7 in the Preston and City Pool League saw league leaders Last Orders travel to the Old Oak. With only 4 players they stormed off to a 4~0 lead in the first half and shared the four games in the second. On form Emma Farrington and Dave Swanson stole the show winning 3 ouy of 3, with Mark Bentham and Keith Farrington taking one a peice. Only winners for the Oak were Mark Langan and Terry Ashton with the match finishing 7~4. In second place are Hendrys Regs they took on Gregson Lane Club which on paper looked like a close match but at the end of the night the Regs took the Club apart winning 9~2 and taking TEAM OF THE WEEK. W Jerram and Steve Crane with 3 out of 3 and double wins for B Rawsthorne and A Green was enough. The Clubs only response were wins from Chris and Ste Bateson. Next is our only unbeaten side The Ley Inn who played the Swan which is not an easy venue for the big potters but showed they can play just about anywere and came away with an 8~3 win. Double wins from Dave O Shaunessy and Mark Holmes and singles from Damion Milnes,Jonny Dean and Kris Hampson, with Milnes and Dean winning the scotch doubles. Stuart Greaves,James Delaney and Andrew Dixon were the only winners for the swan. A derby at Hendrys is our next game seeing Team Hendry take on Hendrys Allsorts who were still looking for their first win. Louise Kearns won the first only for Ann Harrison to level for the Allsorts. Team Hendry then turned up the gas and took 8 out of the next 9 winning 9~2. Louise Kearns and Dave Phillips with 3 out of 3, a double from Chris Kane and single wins from Anne Roccia and Juliet Robinson,with Emma Hall the only other winner for the Allsorts. Stopping at Hendrys, Hendrys Z played Rileys D&G were the Zs came away with an 8~3 victory. PLAYER OF THE WEEK goes to Richard Woan with 2 out of 2 with one being an 8 baller. Tom Lancaster also with 2 out of 2, single wins from Dave Cuerden, Aidy Alty and Mick Hughes who also Partenered Aidy to win the doubles. Two out of three for Anthony Underdown and a single from Tracy Diffin was not enough for Rileys. The Black Horse is our next game as they played host to Hendrys 5 Cues which turned out a near white wash with the 5 Cues winning 10~1. Only Simon Firth won for the horse. Three out of three for James Brookens and Ste Fleming, double wins for Craig Day and Garry Clarke and one win for Sam Lancaster completed the night. Last but not least we are off to Peters Bar were they played Walton Le Dale Con Club. Stuart Turner took the first for the Club only for a quick three from Peters Bar wins for Ric Greenhalgh,Lenny Long and Terri Crook. The tables turned and the Club took the next four with wins from John Park, Dave Halliwell, Frank Halliwell and another from Stuart Turner. Lenny Long pulled one back but John Park clinched the match and also partenered Gary Dewhurst in the doubles to take the match 7~4.
Week6
Week 6 at the Preston City Pool League saw the league leaders Hendrys Regs play away at the unbeaten Ley Inn. With both teams at full strengh it could of gone anyway. In the first half the Ley Inn started well taking 4 out of 5, Dave O Shaunessy,Kris Hampson,Damion Milnes and Brian Young with John Rimmer replying for the Regs. Another win for Mr Rimmer gave Regs a glimmer of hope only for 8 ballers from Johnny Dean and Dave O Shaunessy, another frame for Damion Milnes and wins for Mark Holmes and Kris Hampson in the doubles winning 8~3 making the Ley Inn TEAM OF THE WEEK. In second place in the league are Last Orders who were taking on the steady Gregson Lane Club who started off with wins from Andy Bateson,Ste Bateson and Gareth Austin going into the second half 3~2 up. That was enough for the Last Orders they took control winning the rest. Three from Roger Brakewell and PLAYER OF THE WEEK Emma Farrington and one each for Keith Farrington,Stuart Jordan and Barry Johnson fiishing the tie 8~3. W~LE~D Con Club entertained The Swan only to brush them away 9~2. With James Delaney for The Swan taking the first the Con Club took the next 8. Three from Frank Halliwell and John Park, a double from Gary Dewhurst and single wins from Dave Halliwell and Liam Gibb. Swans only other winner was Bruce Peacock. Off now to the struggling Black Horse were they were visited by Team Hendry. The Horse took the first two with wins from Alex Shaw and John Hodgson only for the ladies to take over. Regular winners Alison Parkes and Louise Kearns won three out of three, a double from Juliet Robinson and a single from Dave Phillips was enough to take the tie 8~3. T he Horse is only other winner was Rob Cuerden. Our next stop is at Hendrys were the Allsorts were playing Peters Bar and with both teams without a win so far this was going to be tight. In the first half it was Peters Bar that took early advantage going 4~1 up with wins from Lenny Long, Ric Greenhalgh, Alex Smith and Terri Crook. Dan Brightey with one for the Allsorts. The second half went to the Allsorts again 4~1, Emma Hall, Diane Stocks, Wendy Knight and another from Dan Brightey. Ric Greenhalgh won his second for Peters Bar leaving the tie level at 5~5. Dan Brightey and Ric Greenhalgh both played in the doubles to see who would make 3 out of 3 and it was Ric for Peters Bar that came out on top 6~5. Last but not least Rileys D&G welcomed the Old Oak. Both the halves were very similar with the Oak winning both 4~1. A cool 8 baller from Andy Livesey and partnering Chris Bullen in the doubles making both 3 out of 3 winners ,2 out of 2 for Mark Langan and one each for Terry Ashton and Darren Eccles took the match 9~2. Debbie Underdown and Donna Killeen were the only winners for Rileys. Hendrys 5 Cues and Hendrys Z to rearrange due to World Championships finals in Blackpool.
